Bad Neighbors

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

I spent about 3 hours of my Sunday afternoon in the emergency room getting a staple put in my head to close up a small cut I got when a 40 oz beer bottle smacked me. The bottle was thrown over our fence from the third-floor rear balcony of the apartment building next door. We didn’t see who threw it so the police can’t do anything. You can see the staple in the little picture. There’s more details on the Vidalicious.com coverage. We were having a great time for the few hours before the bottle attacked me so the day ended up ok overall. Not my favorite Sunday ever, but not the worst either.

New Site!

Friday, March 24th, 2006

I’ve migrated my website from my tired old blosxom setup to this shiny new wordpress setup with a theme I didn’t design. This is the first time I’ve had a website I didn’t design and I think I’m ok with it. I’m not really a designer anyway. Please don’t make fun of me!

I’m going with this minimal theme (for now) because I’m hoping to let my super cool content be the design. You know, some sort of new age hippy “the content is the design” mentality. I guess that means my content AND my design will be sucky now. Heh.

AirTunes and Multiple Speakers

Friday, March 24th, 2006

Airport ExpressI hooked up a third airport express to my network and tried out the multiple stream AirTunes. I’m happy to report that it does indeed work. We let iTunes play for a few hours sending the audio out to the computer’s speakers as well as two Airport Express units over the wireless network. The music is synchronized very well and while standing in between two different rooms with streams playing (one over the network and the other local on the computer) it sounded good with no signs of time phasing. I plan to hook two more Airport Express units into the network and attempt to send music to 5 separate sets of speakers at once. Stay tuned!

Half of DVR users skip commercials

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

“Forrester Research says that more than half the people with a DVR routinely skip commercials” … Only half? That quote is from page 2 of this great ArsTechnica article about the rise of product placements in tv shows. Being able to pause and rewind whatever show you’re watching is very nice but for me skipping commercials is THE reason I must have a DVR from now on. It’s freaky to hear that nearly half the people with a DVR do not routinely skip commercials. What sort of weirdos are these people?

Flight Plan

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

We watched Flight Plan last night thinking it might be fun and suspenseful. It ended up being just ok suspense and leaves you not really caring about any of the characters or what happened to them. Jodie Foster plays the ‘one woman against all odds’ role she’s typically seen in. Usually she does a good job of making you care about what’s going on with her character so you want to keep watching just to see what’s going to happen. For some reason that didn’t happen this time around, though. There are some moments of uncertainty about what’s really going on but they’re fleeting and don’t make up for the otherwise bland story. If you really love Jodie Foster or have a thing for movies on airplanes go ahead and see Flight Plan. Otherwise, don’t bother!

India trip photos

india-temple.jpg

I have a new photo gallery up with a couple of albums of photos taken while I was in India a few weeks ago. The first album is the India Highlights album with 69 of my favorite pictures from the trip. The second India Trip album has all 297 pictures and is well worth the time in my opinion! I’ve added captions to almost of the pictures so you can usually tell where we were when the picture was taken… Mumbai (Bombay), Pune, Udupi, or Gokarna.
